We are very happy to support the “Herd of Cows?” project. A small team deliberated about the theme and decided to celebrate iconic New Zealand. Whilst we had some specific ideas that we wanted to include, this rather broad brief was brilliantly conceptualised by our chosen artist Aaron Smith. His bold and colourful design has produced a work of art that we are proud to have associated with our business and it has provoked interest from around the globe within the Evonik world.
Aaron Smith is an Auckland based artist. He gained his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Elam School of Fine arts in Auckland, after previously studying toward a Bachelor of Media Arts from the Waikato Institute of Technology.
Smith’s art practice can be described as a multi-disciplinary investigation, into alternative possibilities for experiencing and understanding aspects of contemporary urban life. It is built on a desire to respond to his immediate surroundings and highlights a fascination with identity, perception and narrative.
Aaron Smith exhibits regularly and his work can be found in private collections throughout New Zealand and abroad.
Evonik Industries is one of the worlds leading specialty chemical companies. Headquartered in Germany, we offer product technologies and solutions to genuinely create added value to its customers. We are active in over 100 countries and at 18,000km, Morrinsville is by far the most distant from our headquarters in Essen. At the site we manufacture hydrogen peroxide which we sell in Australia and New Zealand with our most important customers coming from the Pulp and Paper and Mining industry sectors. We have been interested in promoting the local arts scene for many years, providing seed capital to help the establishment of the Morrinsville Art Gallery. Our Managing Director was chair of that organisation all through fundraising and for the first two years of its operation.View website
